Fabio Antonacci, Raffaele Malvermi: Vibroacoustic Characterization of Violins

The constructional aspects of bowed instruments and their vibratory and acoustic response are interconnected through a complex relationship, impossible to analyze precisely.

This session will feature instruments from the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, a period of transition in terms of technique. It will analyze how these instruments evolved, relating to the geometries of preceding centuries and subsequent decades, and observing how, on a macroscopic level, general relationships can be established.

The study day will include a listening test of the considered instruments and a brief questionnaire.

Listening to the instruments with Edoardo Zosi, under the scientific supervision of Carlo Andrea Rozzi:

  • Antonio Stradivari “Clisbee” 1669
  • Antonio Stradivari “Cremonese” 1715
  • Antonio Stradivari “Vesuvio” c. 1727
